Hidden Ethos
Welcome to Hidden Ethos, an interactive ethical chatbot experience. Behind each conversation is a voice shaped by a real worldview—either a traditional political figure or a traditional religious figure. Their identity is hidden. You ask the questions, they respond with sincerity, conviction, and reason. The aim is to corrently guess who is who.
The purpose of this game is to explore how we distinguish between religion and politics—not by their institutions, but by the moral frameworks they rely on. Both voices speak with clarity, conviction, and ethical reasoning, yet draw from fundamentally different sources of authority. The challenge is to see whether you can tell them apart without being told who is who. In doing so, the game reveals how blurred the boundaries between the religious and the political can truly be.
Whats the goal?
How does it work?
The voices you hear in this game are shaped not by rigid definitions, but by the patterns of human language itself. Each bot was given only a vague identity—“a promient political figure” or “a promient religious figure”—and asked to respond sincerely. How they interpret those roles is based on the vast body of human thought, debate, and belief embedded in their training. The result is a reflection of how we, as a society, have come to understand the meanings of religion and politics—not as fixed categories, but as evolving, deeply human ways of making sense of the world.
